Each year, on September 12th, the European Headache Alliance organizes European Migraine Day of Action as well as an awareness Day on Cluster Headache at the European Parliament.

Together with their partner organisations, EHA voices the views and concerns of headache patients across Europe. Their aim is to promote awareness and understanding of migraine and other primary headache disorders and seek improved access to appropriate diagnosis and treatment for all.

Audrey Craven

Audrey Craven

Past president

Audrey Craven is founder of the European Headache Alliance (EHA)and President from 2006-2016. She now serves ex officio as Immediate Past President. Audrey was President of the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) until 2016. During her tenure, EFNA gained recognition as the organization representing the voice of neurology patients in Europe. This was achieved by working at a high level in Brussels/ Strasbourg and across the continent. Strong ties were also developed with the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and they now include patient representation on each relevant Scientific Panel.

Audrey is founder and President of the Migraine Association of Ireland (MAI).  She is also the former Chairperson of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI).  She was a member of the Irish neurological Expert Advisory Board that produced three Standards of Care Documents. These recommended new healthcare strategies for neurological conditions in Ireland.

Audrey sat as the Independent Patient-Chair of the European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress (EHMTIC). In 2008, Audrey officially opened EHMTIC and became the first ‘patient’ to have such an honour.

In 2013, Audrey was invited by the European Commission to become a member of the Scientific Steering Committee for European Month of the Brain, as the sole patient representative.

She received a “Fabulous Founders” award for volunteering during 2001, the UN International Year of the Volunteer and she continues to work on a voluntary basis.

The international Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Award was presented to Audrey in 2004. This prestigious award is given to the woman who has done most to alleviate the burden of headache worldwide.

In 2016, EFNA honored Audrey with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
